The Goondiwindi Medical Centre is so excited to announce the launch of our new logo! It is based on an amazing piece by Karlene Duncan, shown below, which is hanging proudly in our waiting room. We have worked hard to create an image that reflects GMC and can be enjoyed by all members of the community.

THE MEANING OF MY ARTWORK

The three circles symbolise Toomelah, Boggabilla, and Goondiwindi communities; the Brolga symbolises the nurturing, healing and commitment from the Goondinwindi Medical Centre to our health and wellbeing.

The river symbolises the Macintyre that flows through all three communities, and how the river is vital for our survival. The colours blue and green portray a calming and relaxing effect on you, which is beneficial for your body, both physically and spiritually. The wavy lines symbolise that we all, at some point in our lives, suffer from an illness in one way or another. They also symbolise that we all go through ups and downs in our lives, no matter the colour of our skin, race, religion, beliefs, or gender.

The leaves symbolise the bush medicines which Aboriginal people have been using for thousands of years and still use today. The bush medicines are used for all kinds of ailments, such as skin conditions, toothaches, etc. The leaves are from the Eurah Tree “Yuurraa” and the Emu Bush “Ngawii” which is eremophila. The Emu Bush also produces a yellow fruit called “Gumbi Gumbi,” which is also used for medicinal purposes.”
